✧ The husband of Barira was a black slave called Mughith. He said: I used to see him following her in the streets of Madinah, weeping over her. He said: The Prophet ﷺ made four rulings concerning her: Her masters stipulated the right of patronage, and the Prophet ﷺ ruled that the right of patronage belongs to the one who sets free. He gave her the choice, and she chose herself, so he ordered her to observe the waiting period. He said: She was given charity, and she gave some of it as a gift to Aisha. She mentioned that to the Prophet ﷺ, and he said: It is charity for her and a gift for us.
