حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ مُجَالِدٍ عَنِ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ

رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَاضِعًا يَدَيْهِ عَلَى مَعْرَفَةِ فَرَسٍ، وَهُوَ يُكَلِّمُ رَجُلًا، قُلْتُ: رَأَيْتُكَ وَاضِعًا يَدَيْكَ عَلَى مَعْرَفَةِ فَرَسِ دِحْيَةَ الْكَلْبِيِّ وَأَنْتَ تُكَلِّمُهُ، قَالَ: وَرَأَيْتِيهِ ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، قَالَ: ذَاكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَهُوَ يُقْرِئُكِ السَّلَامَ قَالَتْ: وَعَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ وَرَحْمَةُ اللهِ وَبَرَكَاتُهُ، جَزَاهُ اللهُ خَيْرًا مِنْ صَاحِبٍ وَدَخِيلٍ، فَنِعْمَ الصَّاحِبُ وَنِعْمَ الدَّخِيلُ

Translation

✧ I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placing his hands on the forelock of a horse while he was speaking to a man. I said: "I saw you placing your hands on the forelock of the horse of Dihyah al-Kalbi while you were speaking to him." He said: "And you saw him?" She said: "Yes." He said: "That was Jibril ﷺ, and he conveys greetings of peace to you." She said: "And upon him be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. May Allah reward him with good as a companion and intimate guest; what an excellent companion and what an excellent intimate guest."
