حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي ثُمَامَةُ بْنُ حَزْنٍ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ عَائِشَةَ
عَنِ النَّبِيذِ فَقَالَتْ قَدِمَ وَفْدُ عَبْدِ الْقَيْسِ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَنَهَاهُمْ أَنْ يَنْتَبِذُوا فِي الدُّبَّاءِ وَالنَّقِيرِ وَالْمُقَيَّرِ وَالْحَنْتَمِ وَدَعَتْ جَارِيَةًحَبَشِيَّةً فَقَالَتْ لِي سَلْ هَذِهِ فَإِنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَنْبِذُ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فِي سِقَاءٍ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ أُوكِئُهُ وَأُعَلِّقُهُ فَإِذَا أَصْبَحَ شَرِبَ مِنْهُ قَالَتْ كُنْتُ أَنْتَبِذُ لَرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ

✧ …about nabīdh. She said: 'The delegation of ʿAbd al-Qays came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, and he forbade them to make nabīdh in gourds, hollowed-out stumps, tarred vessels, and ḥantam jars.' Then she called for an Abyssinian slave girl and said to me: 'Ask her, for she used to make nabīdh for the Messenger of God ﷺ in a waterskin at night. I would tie its mouth and hang it up, and in the morning he would drink from it.' The slave girl said: 'I used to make nabīdh for the Messenger of God ﷺ.'
