حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

أَنَّ نَاسًا كَانُوا يَتَعَبَّدُونَ عِبَادَةً شَدِيدَةً، فَنَهَاهُمُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ, فَقَالَ: وَاللهِ إِنِّي لَأَعْلَمُكُمْ بِاللهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، وَأَخْشَاكُمْ لَهُ, وَكَانَ يَقُولُ: عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ الْعَمَلِ مَا تُطِيقُونَ، فَإِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ لَا يَمَلُّ حَتَّى تَمَلُّوا

Translation

✧ Some people used to engage in intense worship, so the Prophet ﷺ forbade them and said: By Allah, I know Allah Almighty better than you and fear Him more than you. He used to say: Do of deeds what you are able, for Allah Almighty does not tire until you tire.
