✧ I asked Aishah about the character of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said: Do you not read the Qur'an: 'And indeed, you are of a great moral character'? He said: I said: Tell me about that. She said: I prepared food for him, and Hafsah prepared food for him. I told my slave girl: Go, and if she comes with the food and places it down first, then throw the food. She said: She came with the food. She said: The slave girl threw it, and the bowl fell and broke, and there was a leather mat. She said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gathered it and said: Take retribution—or take retribution (Aswad was unsure)—a container in place of your container. She said: And he did not say anything.
