✧ He entered upon the Mother of the Believers Aisha and asked her about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. She said, "He used to pray eight rak'ahs at night, then he would perform the witr prayer with the ninth, and he would pray two rak'ahs while sitting. She also mentioned his ablution, that he would stand up to perform his prayer and order for purification and use of miswak. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ grew old, he would pray six rak'ahs, then perform the witr prayer with the seventh, and pray two rak'ahs while sitting." She said, "He continued to do that until he passed away." I said, "I want to ask you about the voluntary fasting. What do you think about it?" She replied, "Do not do it. Haven't you heard what Allah says, 'And We sent messengers before you and assigned to them wives and offspring' (Surah Ar-Rad 38). So do not seek solitude." He then left and while he was still on the outskirts of the city of Basrah, he fell ill and continued on until he arrived at the land of Makkah where he was martyred, performing the best of his deeds.
