حَدَّثَنَا سَكَنُ بْنُ نَافِعٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا صَالِحُ بْنُ أَبِي الْأَخْضَرِ عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

مَنْ أُتِيَ إِلَيْهِ مَعْرُوفًا فَلْيُكَافِئْ بِهِ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَلْيَذْكُرْهُ، فَمَنْ ذَكَرَهُ فَقَدْ شَكَرَهُ، وَمَنْ تَشَبَّعَ بِمَا لَمْ يَنَلْ, فَهُوَ كَلَابِسِ ثَوْبَيْ زُورٍ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Sakan b. Nāfiʿ
  2. Ṣāliḥ b. Abū al-Akhḍar
  3. al-Zuhrī
  4. ʿUrwah
  5. ʿĀʾishah

✧ Whoever receives a favor should repay it. If he cannot, then he should mention it, for mentioning it is thanking for it. And whoever pretends to have received what he was not given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood.
