حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ مُبَارَكٍ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَاصِمٌ عَنْ مُعَاذَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ

كَانَ يَسْتَأْذِنُ إِذَا كَانَ يَوْمُ الْمَرْأَةِ مِنَّا بَعْدَ أَنْ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: تُرْجِي مَنْ تَشَاءُ مِنْهُنَّ وَتُؤْوِي إِلَيْكَ مَنْ تَشَاءُ وَمَنِ ابْتَغَيْتَ مِمَّنْ عَزَلْتَ فَلا جُنَاحَ عَلَيْكَ قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ لَهَا: مَا كُنْتِ تَقُولِينَ لَهُ ؟ قَالَتْ: كُنْتُ أَقُولُ لَهُ: إِنْ كَانَ ذَلِكَ إِلَيَّ فَإِنِّي لَا أُرِيدُ [يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ] أَنْ أُوثِرَ عَلَيْكَ أَحَدًا

✧ He used to seek permission when it was the day of one of us women after this verse was revealed: “You may defer whom you wish of them and take to you whom you wish, and whoever you desire of those you have set aside, there is no blame upon you.” She said: I said to her: “What did you use to say to him?” She said: “I used to say to him: ‘If that is up to me, then I do not want, O Messenger of God, to prefer anyone over you.’”
