✧ He said: 'Why do you hate him?' He said: 'I am his neighbor, and I know him well. By God, I have never seen him pray any prayer except this prescribed prayer that the righteous and the wicked alike pray.' The man said: 'Ask him, O Messenger of God, whether he ever saw me delay it beyond its time, or perform ablution poorly for it, or perform bowing and prostration poorly in it?' The Messenger of God ﷺ asked him about that, and he said: 'No.' Then he said: 'By God, I have never seen him fast anything except this month that the righteous and the wicked alike fast.' He said: 'Ask him, O Messenger of God, whether he ever saw me break the fast in it or fall short of any of its rights?' The Messenger of God ﷺ asked him, and he said: 'No.' Then he said: 'By God, I have never seen him give anything to a beggar, nor have I ever seen him spend any of his wealth in any cause of God with good, except this charity that the righteous and the wicked alike pay.' He said: 'Ask him, O Messenger of God, whether I have ever withheld anything of the zakat or haggled with its collector?' The Messenger of God ﷺ asked him about that, and he said: 'No.' Then the Messenger of God ﷺ said to him: 'Get up, for I do not know—perhaps he is better than you.'
