✧ I entered upon al-Mukhtar, and he placed a cushion for me and said: 'Were it not that my brother Gabriel had risen from this [cushion], I would have placed it for you.' I wanted to strike his neck, but I remembered a hadith.
Notes

machine translationWakīʿ said it from Abū Laylā without naming him. And Muslim b. Ibrāhīm said, from ʿAbdullāh b. Maysarah al-Ḥārithī, from Abū ʿUkāshah, from Rifāʿah b. Shaddād, from Sulaymān b. Ṣurad. The first is closer to the correct view: Abū ʿUkāshah al-Hamdānī, from Rifāʿah b. Shaddād, from ʿAmr b. al-Ḥamiq, for the ḥadīth of ʿAmr b. al-Ḥamiq is preserved (maḥfūẓ) on this topic.
