✧ I said to Abdullah b. Abbas: "O Abu al-Abbas, how strange is the disagreement of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered ihram." He said: "I am the most knowledgeable of people about that. It was only one Hajj from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and that is why they disagreed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out for Hajj. When he prayed two rak'ahs in his mosque at Dhu al-Hulayfah, he entered ihram in his sitting place, and he pronounced the talbiyah for Hajj when he finished his two rak'ahs. Some people heard that from him and memorized it from him. Then he mounted his camel, and when his she-camel stood upright with him, he pronounced the talbiyah. Some people caught that from him, because people used to come in groups, and they heard him pronouncing the talbiyah when his she-camel stood upright with him. So they said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only entered ihram when his she-camel stood upright with him.' Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went on, and when he ascended the height of al-Bayda', he pronounced the talbiyah. Some people caught that from him, so they said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ only entered ihram when he ascended the height of al-Bayda'.' By Allah, he entered ihram at his place of prayer, pronounced the talbiyah when his she-camel stood upright with him, and pronounced the talbiyah when he ascended the height of al-Bayda'. So whoever follows the statement of Abdullah b. Abbas should enter ihram at his place of prayer when he finishes his two rak'ahs."
