حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا قُرَيْشُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ عَنْ أَبِي وَاصِلٍ قَالَ
لَقِيتُ أَبَا أَيُّوبَ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ، فَصَافَحَنِي فَرَأَى فِي أَظْفَارِي طُولًا، فَقَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: يَسْأَلُ أَحَدُكُمْ عَنْ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ وَهُوَ يَدَعُ أَظْفَارَهُ كَأَظَافِيرِ الطَّيْرِ، تَجْتَمِعُ فِيهَا الْجَنَابَةُ وَالْخَبَثُ وَالتَّفَثُ.
Translation

✧ I met Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, and he shook my hand and saw that my nails were long. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'One of you asks about news from the heavens while he leaves his nails like the claws of birds, in which impurity, filth, and dirt gather.'
