✧ Hudhayfah b. al-Yaman about the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ شَقِيقٍ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ
أَحْصُوا لِي كَمْ يَلْفِظُ الْإِسْلَامَ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، أَتَخَافُ عَلَيْنَا، وَنَحْنُ مَا بَيْنَ السِّتِّمِائَةِ إِلَى السَّبْعِ مِائَةِ؟ قَالَ: فَقَالَ: إِنَّكُمْ لَا تَدْرُونَ لَعَلَّكُمْ أَنْ تُبْتَلَوْا قَالَ: فَابْتُلِينَا، حَتَّى جَعَلَ الرَّجُلُ مِنَّا لَا يُصَلِّي إِلَّا سِرًّا.

✧ "Count for me how many are professing Islam." We said: "O Messenger of Allah, do you fear for us while we are between six and seven hundred?" He said: "Indeed, you do not know—perhaps you will be tested." He said: So we were tested, until a man among us would pray only in secret.
