حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ وَأَبُو أَحْمَدَ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ مَرْثَدٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بُرَيْدَةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يُعَلِّمُهُمْ إِذَا خَرَجُوا إِلَى الْمَقَابِرِ، فَكَانَ قَائِلُهُمْ يَقُولُ: السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، [قَالَ مُعَاوِيَةُ فِي حَدِيثِهِ: ] إِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللهُ بِكُمْ لَاحِقُونَ

Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. Muʿāwiyah b. Hishām and ʾAbū Aḥmad
  2. Sufyān
  3. ʿAlqamah b. Marthad
  4. Sulaymān b. Buraydah
  5. his father

✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ taught them when they went out to the graveyards, and their speaker would say: "Peace be upon you, O people of the dwellings, from the believers and Muslims. [Muawiya said in his hadith:] Indeed, God willing, we will join you."
