حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ [قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ] وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ ابْنِ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ بِالْكُوفَةِ وَقَالَ لَنَا فِيهِ ابْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ وَأَمَّا أَبِي فَحَدَّثَنَاهُ عَنْهُ وَلَمْ يَذْكُرِ الزُّهْرِيَّ وَحَدَّثَنَاهُ بِالْكُوفَةِ جَعَلَهُ لَنَا عَنْ الزُّهْرِيِّ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى حَدِيثِ أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَوْنٍ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ أَخْبَرَنِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَمْرِو بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ بَعَثَهُ وَحْدَهُ عَيْنًا إِلَى قُرَيْشٍ، قَالَ: فَجِئْتُ إِلَى خَشَبَةِ خُبَيْبٍ، وَأَنَا أَتَخَوَّفُ الْعُيُونَ، فَرَقِيتُ فِيهَا، فَحَلَلْتُ خُبَيْبًا، فَوَقَعَ إِلَى الْأَرْضِ فَانْتَبَذْتُ غَيْرَ بَعِيدٍ، ثُمَّ الْتَفَتُّ فَلَمْ أَرَ خُبَيْبًا وَلَكَأَنَّمَا ابْتَلَعَتْهُ الْأَرْضُ، فَلَمْ يُرَ لِخُبَيْبٍ أَثَرٌ حَتَّى السَّاعَةِ

✧ That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent him alone as a scout to Quraysh. He said: 'I came to the wood of Khubayb, while I was wary of watchmen, so I climbed it, untied Khubayb, and he fell to the ground. Then I withdrew not far away. Then I turned around and did not see Khubayb, and it was as if the earth had swallowed him. No trace of Khubayb has been seen even until now.'
