Thawban, the freed servant of the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ وَأَبُو النَّضْرِ قَالَا حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ عَنْ ثَوْبَانَ مَوْلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

مَنْ يَتَقَبَّلُ لِي بِوَاحِدَةٍ أَتَقَبَّلُ لَهُ بِالْجَنَّةِ؟ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ. قَالَ: لَا تَسْأَلِ النَّاسَ شَيْئًا، قَالَ: فَرُبَّمَا سَقَطَ سَوْطُ ثَوْبَانَ وَهُوَ عَلَى الْبَعِيرِ، فَمَا يَسْأَلُ أَحَدًا أَنْ يُنَاوِلَهُ حَتَّى يَنْزِلَ إِلَيْهِ فَيَأْخُذَهُ.

✧ "Who will guarantee me one thing and I will guarantee him Paradise?" I said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "Do not ask people for anything." He said: Sometimes Thawban's whip would fall while he was on a camel, and he would not ask anyone to hand it to him until he dismounted and took it himself.
