حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا الْأَعْمَشُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ أَوْسِ بْنِ ضَمْعَجٍ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ

يَؤُمُّ الْقَوْمَ أَقْرَؤُهُمْ لِكِتَابِ اللهِ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ سَوَاءً، فَأَعْلَمُهُمْ بِالسُّنَّةِ، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي السُّنَّةِ سَوَاءً فَأَقْدَمُهُمْ هِجْرَةً، فَإِنْ كَانُوا فِي الْهِجْرَةِ سَوَاءً، فَأَكْبَرُهُمْ سِنًّا، وَلَا تَؤُمَّنَّ رَجُلًا فِي سُلْطَانِهِ، وَلَا تَجْلِسْ عَلَى تَكْرِمَتِهِ فِي بَيْتِهِ حَتَّى يَأْذَنَ لَكَ.

  6. Rasūl Allāh ﷺ

✧ The people should be led in prayer by the one who has the most knowledge of the Book of Allah. If they are equal in recitation, then the most knowledgeable of the Sunnah. If they are equal in the Sunnah, then the earliest in emigration. If they are equal in emigration, then the oldest in age. And no man should lead another in prayer in his domain of authority, nor sit on his place of honor in his house without his permission.
