Translation

Chain of narrators
  1. ʿAffān
  2. Ḥammād b. Zayd
  3. Sinān Abū Rabīʿah Ṣāḥib al-Sābirī
  4. Shahr b. Ḥawshab
  5. Abū Umāmah

✧ He described the ablution of the Messenger of God ﷺ and mentioned three [times] three [times], but I do not know how he mentioned rinsing the mouth and inhaling water. He said: And the ears are part of the head. He said: And the Messenger of God ﷺ used to wipe the inner corners of the eyes. And he said: With his two fingers — and Ḥammād showed us — and he wiped his inner eye corners.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationḤammād b. Zayd narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥīm al-Shammākhī, who was in Syria and was not approved of, narrated it from Sulaymān b. Ḥarb, from Ḥammād b. Zayd, from Abān b. Taghlib, from Shahr, from Asmāʾ bint Yazīd. But the preserved (maḥfūẓ) version is from Ḥammād b. Zayd, from Sinān b. Rabīʿah, from Shahr, from Abū Umāmah.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationRaising it to the Prophet is an error (wahm). Shahr b. Ḥawshab is not strong, and Sulaymān b. Ḥarb, who is trustworthy (thiqah), reported it as a statement of the Companion (mawqūf).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595

machine translationSinān has few hadiths, and I hope that there is no harm in him.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationThis is mursal, and it was narrated from him in a connected form from Abū Umāmah, from the Prophet ﷺ, but that is not authentic. Abū Bakr b. Abī Maryam is weak (ḍaʿīf).

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595

  • Abū Bakr Aḥmad b. al-Ḥusayn al-Bayhaqī

machine translationThere is no hadith among them, meaning "the two ears are part of the head", except that it has a defect.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595

machine translationIt is only from the words of Abū Umāmah; whoever says otherwise has altered it.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595
  • Dāraquṭnī

machine translationḤammād b. Zayd narrates it from Sinān b. Rabīʿah, from Shahr, and Ḥammād b. Salamah differed from him, and narrated some of the wording from Sinān b. Rabīʿah, from Anas. Sulaymān b. Ḥarb said regarding this hadith, from Ḥammād b. Zayd, that the saying "the two ears are part of the head" is from the words of Abū Umāmah, not raised to the Prophet (marfūʿ), and that is correct.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 22595
