✧ I did not think the people were as far from us as they were. Muadh said: "O Prophet of Allah, the people dozed and their mounts dispersed with them, grazing and moving on." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "I too was drowsy." When Muadh saw the Prophet's ﷺ glad tidings to him and his privacy with him, he said: "O Messenger of Allah, permit me to ask you about a word that has made me ill, sickened me, and grieved me." The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "Ask me whatever you wish." He said: "O Prophet of Allah, tell me of a deed that will admit me to Paradise; I will not ask you about anything else." The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! You have asked about something great, you have asked about something great," three times, "and indeed it is easy for the one for whom Allah intends good, and indeed it is easy for the one for whom Allah intends good, and indeed it is easy for the one for whom Allah intends good." He did not tell him anything except he said it three times, meaning he repeated it to him three times out of eagerness to make him perfect it from him. The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "Believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish prayer, and worship Allah alone, associating nothing with Him, until you die upon that." He said: "O Prophet of Allah, repeat for me." So he repeated it to him three times. Then the Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "If you wish, O Muadh, I will tell you of the head of this matter, the support of this matter, and the peak of the camel's hump." Muadh said: "Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom, O Prophet of Allah, tell me." The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said: "The head of this matter is to testify that there is no god but Allah alone with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. The support of this matter is performing prayer and giving zakah. The peak of the camel's hump from it is jihad in the path of Allah. I have only been commanded to fight the people until they establish prayer, give zakah, and testify that there is no god but Allah alone with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. When they do that, they have held fast and protected their blood and wealth except by its right, and their reckoning is with Allah, Mighty and Majestic."
