✧ Two men of the Children of Israel traced their lineages in the time of Moses ﷺ: one of them was a Muslim and the other a polytheist. The polytheist traced his lineage and said: 'I am so-and-so son of so-and-so,' until he reached nine forefathers. Then he said to his companion: 'Trace your lineage, may you have no mother.' He said: 'I am so-and-so son of so-and-so, and I am free of what is beyond that.' Moses ﷺ called out to the people, gathered them, then said: 'It has been judged between you two. As for the one who traced his lineage to nine forefathers, you are above them, the tenth in the Fire. As for the one who traced his lineage to his two parents, you are a man of the people of Islam.'
