✧ I entered the mosque of Homs, and in it there were about thirty middle-aged men from the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Among them was a young man with kohl-lined eyes, gleaming front teeth, silent. When the people disagreed about something, they turned to him and asked him. I said to a companion of mine: 'Who is this?' He said: 'This is Muʿādh b. Jabal.' Love for him fell into my heart, so I stayed with them until they dispersed. Then I went early to the mosque, and there was Muʿādh b. Jabal standing praying toward a pillar. He was silent and did not speak to me. I prayed, then sat down, wrapping myself in my cloak. Then he sat down and was silent, not speaking to me, and I was silent, not speaking to him. Then I said: 'By God, I love you.' He said: 'For what do you love me?' I said: 'For God, Blessed and Exalted.' He took hold of my waist-wrapper and pulled me to him a little, then said: 'Rejoice if you are truthful. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "Those who love one another for My majesty will have pulpits of light, and the prophets and martyrs will envy them."'
