✧ A man came to 'Umar and said: A woman came to pledge allegiance to him, so I took her into a secluded room and did with her everything short of intercourse. He said: Woe to you! Perhaps she was a woman whose husband was away in the cause of Allah? He said: Yes. He said: Then go to Abu Bakr and ask him. He said: So he went to him and asked him, and he said: Perhaps she was a woman whose husband was away in the cause of Allah? He said: He said the same as 'Umar had said. Then he came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him the same thing. He said: Perhaps she was a woman whose husband was away in the cause of Allah? And the Qur'an was revealed: 'Establish prayer at the two ends of the day and in the early hours of the night. Indeed, good deeds remove evil deeds' - to the end of the verse. He said: O Messenger of Allah, is this for me specifically or for all people generally? 'Umar struck his chest with his hand and said: No, and no delight of the eye; rather, it is for all people generally. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Umar has spoken the truth.
