✧ Muʿādh b. Jabal came to us in Yemen as the envoy of the Messenger of God ﷺ, arriving at dawn raising his voice with the takbīr, with a hoarse voice. Love for him was cast into my heart, and I did not part from him until I threw dust upon him in Syria when he died, may God have mercy on him. Then I looked for the most learned of the people after him, so I came to ʿAbd Allāh b. Masʿūd, and he said to me: How will you be when rulers come over you who pray the prayer at other than its proper time? I said: What do you command me if that overtakes me? He said: Pray the prayer at its proper time, and make that [prayer with them] a supererogatory prayer.
