✧ I sat in a gathering in which there were twenty of the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ, and among them was a young man of recent age, handsome of face, with dark wide eyes and bright front teeth. When they differed about something and he said something, they ended with his saying. And he was Muadh b. Jabal. The next day I came and found him praying toward a pillar. He said: He shortened his prayer, then sat with his legs drawn up and was silent. He said: I said: By God, I love you for the sake of God's majesty. He said: By God? He said: I said: By God. He said: Those who love one another for God, I think he said, will be in the shade of God on a day when there is no shade but His shade. Then there is no doubt about the rest of it—meaning the rest of the hadith—chairs of light will be placed for them, and the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs will envy them for their sitting from the Lord, mighty and majestic.
