✧ He visited Abu al-Darda in Homs and stayed with him for nights. He ordered his donkey to be saddled, and Abu al-Darda said: I think I should follow you. He ordered his donkey to be saddled, and they rode together on their two donkeys. They met a man who had attended the Friday prayer yesterday with Mu'awiya at al-Jabiya. The man recognized them but they did not recognize him, and he told them the news of the people. Then the man said: And another piece of news I disliked to tell you; I see you would dislike it. Abu al-Darda said: Perhaps Abu Dharr has been exiled. He said: Yes, by God. Abu al-Darda and his companion said 'Indeed we belong to God and to Him we return' nearly ten times. Then Abu al-Darda said: Watch them and be patient, as was said to the companions of the she-camel. O God, if they have belied Abu Dharr, I do not belie him. O God, if they have accused him, I do not accuse him. O God, if they have deemed him treacherous, I do not deem him treacherous, for the Messenger of God ﷺ used to trust him when he trusted no one, and confide in him when he confided in no one. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Abu al-Darda, if Abu Dharr cut off my right hand, I would not hate him after what I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: The green canopy has not shaded nor the dust-colored earth carried one of more truthful speech than Abu Dharr.
