✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to stand by a palm trunk when the mosque was a mere arbor, and he would deliver the sermon standing by that trunk. A man from among his companions said, “O Messenger of Allah, would you like us to make something for you to stand on on Friday so that the people can see you and hear your sermon?” He said, “Yes.” So he made for him the three steps that are on the minbar. When the minbar was made and placed in the spot where the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had put it, and when he wanted to go to the minbar he passed by the trunk. When he passed beyond it, the trunk moaned until it cracked and split. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came back and wiped it with his hand until it fell silent, then he returned to the minbar. And when he prayed, he used to pray facing it. When the mosque was demolished and altered, Ubayy b. Kaʿb took that trunk and kept it with him until it decayed and was eaten by termites and became dust.
