✧ On the day of Uhud, sixty-four men of the Anṣār were killed, and six of the Muhājirūn. The Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ said: If we ever have a day like this against the polytheists, we will surely exceed what they did to us. When the day of the conquest came, a man who was not known said: No Quraysh after today. Then the caller of the Messenger of God ﷺ called out: Safety for the black and the white except so-and-so and so-and-so — people he named. Then God, Blessed and Exalted, sent down: And if you punish, then punish with the like of what you were punished with, but if you are patient, it is surely better for the patient. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: We will be patient and not punish.
