✧ I said to Ubayy b. Kaʿb: O Abū al-Mundhir, tell me about the Night of Decree, for our companion—meaning Ibn Masʿūd—when asked about it would say, “Whoever stands in prayer the whole year will attain it.” He said: May God have mercy on Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān. By God, he knew that it is in Ramadan, but he loved that they should not rely on it. And it is the night of the twenty-seventh—without exception. I said: O Abū al-Mundhir, how did you know that? He said: By the sign that the Messenger of God ﷺ told us: On the morning of the Night of Decree, the sun rises without rays, like a basin, until it rises high.
