حَدَّثَنَا رَوْحُ بْنُ عُبَادَةَ حَدَّثَنَا قُرَّةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ يَزِيدَ بْنَ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الشِّخِّيرِ قَالَ
كُنَّا بِالْمِرْبَدِ جُلُوسًا، فَأَتَى عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَادِيَةِ لَمَّا رَأَيْنَاهُ قُلْنَا: كَأَنَّ هَذَا رَجُلٌ لَيْسَ مِنْ أَهْلِ الْبَلَدِ. قَالَ: أَجَلْ فَإِذَا مَعَهُ كِتَابٌ فِي قِطْعَةِ أَدِيمٍ - قَالَ: وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: فِي قِطْعَةِ جِرَابٍ - فَقَالَ: هَذَا كِتَابٌ كَتَبَهُ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَإِذَا فِيهِ: بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ، هَذَا كِتَابٌ مِنْ مُحَمَّدٍ النَّبِيِّ رَسُولِ اللهِ لِبَنِي زُهَيْرِ بْنِ أُقَيْشٍ - وَهُمْ حَيٌّ مِنْ عُكْلٍ - إِنَّكُمْ إِنْ أَقَمْتُمُ الصَّلَاةَ، وَآتَيْتُمُ الزَّكَاةَ، وَفَارَقْتُمُ الْمُشْرِكِينَ، وَأَعْطَيْتُمُ الْخُمُسَ مِنَ الْمَغْنَمِ، ثُمَّ سَهْمَ النَّبِيِّ وَالصَّفِيِّ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ: وَصَفِيِّهِ فَأَنْتُمْ آمِنُونَ بِأَمَانِ اللهِ [تَبَارَكَ وَتَعَالَى] وَأَمَانِ رَسُولِهِ
Translation

✧ We were sitting at al-Mirbad when a man from the desert came to us. When we saw him, we said: 'This man seems not to be from the townspeople.' He said: 'Indeed.' And with him was a document on a piece of tanned leather — he said: 'And sometimes he said: on a piece of a provision bag' — and he said: 'This is a document that the Messenger of God ﷺ wrote for me.' In it was: 'In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. This is a document from Muhammad the Prophet, the Messenger of God, to the Banu Zuhayr b. Uqaysh — and they are a clan of 'Ukl —: If you establish the prayer, give the zakat, separate from the polytheists, and give the fifth of the spoils, then the share of the Prophet and the select portion — and sometimes he said: and his select portion — then you are secure with the security of God [Blessed and Exalted] and the security of His Messenger.'
