✧ I had forbidden you from [keeping] the meat of sacrificial animals beyond three days so that it would suffice you; but Allah has brought abundance, so eat, store, and trade. Indeed, these days are days of eating, drinking, and remembrance of Allah. A man said, “O Messenger of Allah, we used to offer an ʿatīrah sacrifice in the pre-Islamic period in Rajab—what do you command us?” He said, “Slaughter for Allah in whatever month it may be; be dutiful to Allah and feed [others].” Another man said, “O Messenger of Allah, we used to perform a faraʿ in the pre-Islamic period—what do you command us?” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “For every pasturing flock of sheep there is a faraʿ: you feed it along with your sheep until, when it becomes strong enough to carry a load, you slaughter it and give its meat in charity to the wayfarer; indeed, that is better.”
