✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, saying: We used to slaughter an ʿatīrah for ourselves in the Jāhiliyyah; what do you command us? He said: Slaughter in every month, and be good to Allah, and feed others. I said: O Messenger of Allah, we used to offer a faraʿ in the Jāhiliyyah; what do you command us? He said: In every pasturing herd there is a faraʿ: let your livestock raise it, and when it becomes fit for carrying loads, you slaughter it and give its meat as charity. He said: I think he said: to the wayfarer, for that is better.
