✧ When this verse was revealed: “Whether you disclose what is in yourselves or conceal it, God will call you to account for it” (Qur'an 2:284), something entered their hearts that had never entered them from anything. He said: The Prophet ﷺ said: “Say: We hear and obey and we submit,” so God cast faith into their hearts, and God (mighty and majestic) revealed: “The Messenger believes in what was sent down to him from his Lord, and the believers. Each one believes in God, His angels, His books, and His messengers. We make no distinction between any of His messengers, and they say: We hear and obey; Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return. God does not burden a soul beyond its capacity. For it is what it has earned, and against it is what it has incurred. Our Lord, do not take us to task if we forget or make a mistake. Our Lord, do not lay on us a burden as You laid on those before us. Our Lord, do not impose on us what we have no strength to bear. Pardon us, forgive us, and have mercy on us. You are our Protector, so help us against the disbelieving people” (Qur'an 2:285-286).
