Translation

✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, by God, I did not come to you until I had sworn more than the number of these—and he struck one of his hands on the other—that I would not come to you, nor to your religion. And I have come as a man who does not understand anything except what God [Mighty and Majestic] and His Messenger have taught me. And I ask you by the face of God: with what did our Lord send you to us? He said: With Islam. I said: O Messenger of God, what is the sign of Islam? He said: That you say, 'I have submitted my face to God and turned away [from other gods],' and you establish prayer, and you give zakah. Every Muslim is inviolable to another Muslim; [they are] two brothers, [each] a helper. God [Mighty and Majestic] does not accept from a polytheist who associates partners after he has submitted any deed, or [until] he separates from the polytheists to the Muslims. What is it with me holding onto your waistbands [to keep you] from the Fire? Indeed, my Lord is calling me, and He will ask me: 'Have you conveyed to My servants?' And I will say to Him: 'My Lord, I have conveyed to them.' So let the one present among you convey to the one absent. Then you will be called, with your mouths muzzled with the fidam. And the first thing to be shown—and he said in Wasit: to speak—he said: and the Messenger of God ﷺ said, moving his hand on his thigh. He said: I said: O Messenger of God, is this our religion? He said: This is your religion, and wherever you do good, it will suffice you.
