✧ I saw an old man in al-Ahwaz praying the afternoon prayer while holding the reins of his mount in his hand. It kept moving back, and he kept retreating with it, while a man from the Kharijites sat reviling him. When he finished praying, he said: I heard what you said. I went on six or seven military campaigns with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and I witnessed his command and his leniency. Returning with my mount was dearer to me than leaving it, lest it go to its accustomed place and cause me hardship. He said: I said: How many rak'ahs did he pray? He said: Two. He said: And he was Abu Barzah.
