حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عَدِيٍّ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ يَعْنِي التَّيْمِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي السَّلِيلِ عَنْ زَهْدَمٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ

انْطَلَقْنَا إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ نَسْتَحْمِلُهُ فَقَالَ: وَاللهِ لَا أَحْمِلُكُمْ فَرَجَعْنَا، فَبَعَثَ إِلَيْنَا بِثَلَاثٍ بُقْعِ الذُّرَى، فَقَالَ بَعْضُنَا لِبَعْضٍ: حَلَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَنْ لَا يَحْمِلَنَا، فَأَتَيْنَاهُ فَقُلْنَا: إِنَّكَ حَلَفْتَ أَنْ لَا تَحْمِلَنَا، فَقَالَ: مَا أَنَا حَمَلْتُكُمْ، إِنَّمَا حَمَلَكُمُ اللهُ تَعَالَى، مَا عَلَى الْأَرْضِ يَمِينٌ أَحْلِفُ عَلَيْهَا، فَأَرَى غَيْرَهَا خَيْرًا مِنْهَا إِلَّا أَتَيْتُهُ

Translation

✧ We went to the Prophet ﷺ asking him for mounts. He said: 'By Allah, I will not provide you mounts.' So we returned. Then he sent to us three camels with white patches on their humps. Some of us said to others: 'The Prophet ﷺ swore he would not provide us mounts.' So we came to him and said: 'You swore you would not provide us mounts.' He said: 'I did not provide you mounts; rather Allah, Exalted be He, provided you mounts. There is no oath on earth that I swear, then see something other than it better, except that I do that.'
