✧ When Asmāʾ arrived, ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb ؓ met her in one of the streets of Madinah and said, 'Is she the Abyssinian?' She said, 'Yes.' He said, 'What a good people you are, were it not that you were preceded in the hijrah.' She said to ʿUmar, 'You were with the Messenger of God ﷺ; he carried your riders and taught your ignorant ones, while we fled with our religion. Indeed, I will not return until I mention this to the Prophet ﷺ.' She went back to him and told him, and the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Rather, you have the hijrah twice: your hijrah to Madinah and your hijrah to Abyssinia.'
