حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ يَعْلَى بْنِ كَعْبٍ الثَّقَفِيَّ الطَّائِفِيَّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَمْرَو بْنَ الشَّرِيدِ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ
اسْتَنْشَدَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ شِعْرِ أُمَيَّةَ بْنِ أَبِي الصَّلْتِ، فَأَنْشَدْتُهُ فَكُلَّمَا أَنْشَدْتُهُ بَيْتًا قَالَ: هِي، حَتَّى أَنْشَدْتُهُ مِائَةَ قَافِيَةٍ فَقَالَ: إِنْ كَادَ لَيُسْلِمُ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me to recite to him some poetry of Umayya b. Abī al-Ṣalt, so I recited to him. Every time I recited a verse, he said: Go on, until I had recited one hundred rhymes. Then he said: He almost became a Muslim.
