حَدَّثَنَا حَسَنُ بْنُ مُوسَى حَدَّثَنَا زُهَيْرُ بْنُ مُعَاوِيَةَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ جَابِرٍ عَنْ رَجُلٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَبَسَةَ قَالَ
بَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَعْرِضُ خَيْلًا وَعِنْدَهُ عُيَيْنَةُ بْنُ حِصْنِ بْنِ حُذَيْفَةَ بْنِ بَدْرٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ فَقَالَ لِعُيَيْنَةَ: أَنَا أَبْصَرُ بِالْخَيْلِ مِنْكَ فَقَالَ عُيَيْنَةُ: وَأَنَا أَبْصَرُ بِالرِّجَالِ مِنْكَ. قَالَ: فَكَيْفَ ذَاكَ ؟ قَالَ: خِيَارُ الرِّجَالِ الَّذِينَ يَضَعُونَ أَسْيَافَهُمْ عَلَى عَوَاتِقِهِمْ، وَيَعْرِضُونَ رِمَاحَهُمْ عَلَى مَنَاسِجِ خُيُولِهِمْ مِنْ أَهْلِ نَجْدٍ. قَالَ: كَذَبْتَ خِيَارُ الرِّجَالِ رِجَالُ أَهْلِ الْيَمَنِ، وَالْإِيمَانُ يَمَانٍ، وَأَنَا يَمَانٍ، وَأَكْثَرُ الْقَبَائِلِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ فِي الْجَنَّةِ مَذْحِجٌ، وَحَضْرَمَوْتُ خَيْرٌ مِنْ بَنِي الْحَارِثِ، وَمَا أُبَالِي أَنْ يَهْلِكَ الْحَيَّانِ كِلَاهُمَا، فَلَا قِيلَ وَلَا مُلْكَ إِلَّا اللهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ، لَعَنَ اللهُ الْمُلُوكَ الْأَرْبَعَةَ: جَمْدًا، وَمِشْرَحًا، وَمِخْوَسًا، وَأَبْضَعَةَ، وَأُخْتَهُمُ الْعَمَرَّدَةَ.

✧ While the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was inspecting horses, and with him was ʿUyayna b. Ḥiṣn b. Ḥudhayfa b. Badr al-Fazārī, he said to ʿUyayna: I am more knowledgeable about horses than you. ʿUyayna said: And I am more knowledgeable about men than you. He said: How is that? He said: The best men are those who put their swords on their shoulders and present their spears at the withers of their horses, from the people of Najd. He said: You have lied. The best men are the men of the people of Yemen, and faith is Yemeni, and I am Yemeni. And most of the tribes on the Day of Resurrection in Paradise will be Madhḥij, and Ḥaḍramawt is better than Banū al-Ḥārith, and I do not care if both tribes perish. There is no saying and no king except Allah, mighty and glorious. May Allah curse the four kings: Jamad, Mishraḥ, Mikhwas, and Abḍaʿa, and their sister al-ʿAmarrada.
