✧ There was a treaty between Muʿāwiyah and a group of the Byzantines. Muʿāwiyah set out and began traveling in their land so that they would break the treaty and he could raid them. Then a man called out from among the people: Fulfillment, not treachery! And it turned out to be ʿAmr b. ʿAbasah. He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Whoever has a treaty with a people, let him neither tighten a knot nor loosen it until its term expires, or he renounces it to them on equal terms.
