حَدَّثَنَا هُشَيْمٌ أَخْبَرَنَا مُجَالِدٌ عَنْ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ قَالَ
سَأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنْ صَيْدِ الْكَلْبِ فَقَالَ: إِذَا أَرْسَلْتَ كَلْبَكَ الْمُعَلَّمَ فَسَمَّيْتَ عَلَيْهِ فَأَخَذَ، فَأَدْرَكْتَ ذَكَاتَهُ فَذَكِّهِ وَإِنْ قَتَلَ فَكُلْ، فَإِنْ أَكَلَ مِنْهُ فَلَا تَأْكُلْ.

✧ I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about the game of the dog. He said: When you send your trained dog and mention Allah's name over it, and it seizes the game, and you reach it while it is still alive, then slaughter it; and if it kills it, then eat. But if it eats from it, do not eat.
