✧ The remaining conversation of Abdullah bin Abi Aufa, about the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا حُسَيْنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْهَجَرِيِّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي أَوْفَى

وَكَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الشَّجَرَةِ، فَمَاتَتِ ابْنَةٌ لَهُ، وَكَانَ يَتْبَعُ جِنَازَتَهَا عَلَى بَغْلَةٍ خَلْفَهَا، فَجَعَلَ النِّسَاءُ يَبْكِينَ فَقَالَ: لَا تَرْثِينَ، فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنِ الْمَرَاثِي، فَتُفِيضُ إِحْدَاكُنَّ مِنْ عَبْرَتِهَا مَا شَاءَتْ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ عَلَيْهَا أَرْبَعًا، ثُمَّ قَامَ بَعْدَ الرَّابِعَةِ قَدْرَ مَا بَيْنَ التَّكْبِيرَتَيْنِ يَدْعُو، ثُمَّ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَصْنَعُ فِي الْجِنَازَةِ هَكَذَا

Translation

✧ He was one of the companions of the Tree. A daughter of his died, and he followed her funeral procession on a mule, behind the bier. The women began to weep, so he said: 'Do not lament, for the Messenger of God ﷺ forbade lamentations. Let any of you shed from her tears as much as she wishes.' Then he said the takbir over her four times. Then, after the fourth, he stood for as long as between two takbirs, supplicating. Then he said: 'The Messenger of God ﷺ used to do thus at funerals.'
