حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ عَمَّارِ بْنِ يَاسِرٍ أَبِي الْيَقْظَانِ قَالَ
كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَهَلَكَ عِقْدٌ لِعَائِشَةَ، فَأَقَامَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى أَضَاءَ الْفَجْرُ فَتَغَيَّظَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى عَائِشَةَ، فَنَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ الرُّخْصَةُ فِي الْمَسْحِ بِالصُّعُدَاتِ، فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّكِ لَمُبَارَكَةٌ، لَقَدْ نَزَلَ عَلَيْنَا فِيكِ رُخْصَةٌ، فَضَرَبْنَا بِأَيْدِينَا لِوُجُوهِنَا، وَضَرَبْنَا بِأَيْدِينَا ضَرْبَةً إِلَى الْمَنَاكِبِ وَالْآبَاطِ

✧ We were with the Messenger of God ﷺ when a necklace of ʿĀʾishah was lost, so the Messenger of God ﷺ stayed until dawn broke. Abū Bakr became angry with ʿĀʾishah, and then the concession for wiping with clean earth was sent down upon them. Abū Bakr went in to her and said: “You are blessed. A concession has been sent down for us because of you.” So we struck our hands for our faces, and struck our hands once up to the shoulders and armpits.
