Translation

✧ We were with Umar when a man came to him and said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, we remain for a month or two without finding water.' Umar said, 'As for me, I would not pray until I find water.' Ammar said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, do you remember when we were at such-and-such a place, tending camels, and you know that we became ritually impure?' He said, 'Yes.' Ammar said, 'I rolled in the dust, then came to the Prophet ﷺ and told him, and he laughed and said: Clean earth would have sufficed you. Then he struck the ground with his palms, blew on them, and wiped his face and part of his forearms.' Umar said, 'Fear God, O Ammar.' Ammar said, 'O Commander of the Faithful, if you wish, I will never mention it as long as I live—or as long as I remain alive.' He said, 'No, by God, but we will entrust you with what you have taken upon yourself.'
