حَدَّثَنَا عَبِيدَةُ بْنُ حُمَيْدٍ أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنِي عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عَرْفَجَةَ قَالَ

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ عُتْبَةَ بْنِ فَرْقَدٍ، وَهُوَ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا رَآهُ عُتْبَةُ هَابَهُ فَسَكَتَ، قَالَ: فَحَدَّثَ عَنْ رَمَضَانَ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ: فِي رَمَضَانَ تُغَلَّقُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ النَّارِ، وَتُفَتَّحُ فِيهِ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ، وَتُصَفَّدُ فِيهِ الشَّيَاطِينُ، قَالَ: وَيُنَادِي فِيهِ مَلَكٌ: يَا بَاغِيَ الْخَيْرِ أَبْشِرْ، يَا بَاغِيَ الشَّرِّ أَقْصِرْ، حَتَّى يَنْقَضِيَ رَمَضَانُ

Translation

✧ I was with ʿUtba b. Farqad while he was narrating about Ramaḍān. He said: A man from the companions of Muḥammad ﷺ entered upon us. He said: When ʿUtba saw him, he was in awe of him and fell silent. He said: Then he narrated about Ramaḍān. He said: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: In Ramaḍān the gates of the Fire are closed, the gates of Paradise are opened, and the devils are fettered. He said: And an angel calls out in it: O seeker of good, rejoice! O seeker of evil, desist! Until Ramaḍān ends.
