✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded us to dig the trench. He said: A rock appeared before us in a place in the trench where the pickaxes could not break it. He said: They complained about it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came. Awf said: I think he said: He put down his garment, then descended to the rock and took the pickaxe and said: 'In the name of Allah.' He struck a blow and broke a third of the stone, and said: 'Allah is greatest. I have been given the keys of Syria. By Allah, I can see its red palaces from this place of mine.' Then he said: 'In the name of Allah,' and struck another blow and broke a third of the stone, and said: 'Allah is greatest. I have been given the keys of Persia. By Allah, I can see al-Mada'in, and I can see its white palace from this place of mine.' Then he said: 'In the name of Allah,' and struck another blow and removed the rest of the stone, and said: 'Allah is greatest. I have been given the keys of Yemen. By Allah, I can see the gates of San'a' from this place of mine.'
