✧ This verse was revealed while the Messenger of God ﷺ was hiding in Makkah: "And do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer or [too] quietly but seek between that a way" [Q 17:110]. He said: When the Prophet ﷺ prayed with his companions, he raised his voice in recitation of the Qur'an. When the polytheists heard that, they reviled the Qur'an, the One who sent it down, and the one who brought it. He said: Then God, Mighty and Majestic, said to His Prophet: "Do not recite [too] loudly in your prayer," that is, in your recitation, lest the polytheists hear and revile the Qur'an; "and do not recite [too] quietly," away from your companions, so that they do not hear the Qur'an from you until they learn it from you. "But seek between that a way."
