✧ The first thing he did when he came to Madinah was to stay with his maternal grandfathers — or maternal uncles — from the Ansar, and that he prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis for sixteen — or seventeen — months, and he liked that his qiblah be toward the House, and that the first prayer he prayed was the Asr prayer, and some people prayed with him. A man who had prayed with him went out and passed by the people of a mosque while they were bowing, and he said: I bear witness by Allah that I have prayed with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ facing Makkah. He said: So they turned as they were toward the House. And he liked that the qiblah be turned toward the House, and the Jews and the People of the Book had been pleased when he prayed facing Bayt al-Maqdis, but when he turned his face toward the House, they disapproved of that.
