✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ halted at Ūlāt al-Jaysh with his wife ‘Ā’ishah. A necklace of hers made of Ẓafār onyx broke, and the people were detained in searching for that necklace until dawn broke, and there was no water with the people. So Allah, mighty and majestic, sent down upon His Messenger ﷺ the concession of purification with clean earth. The Muslims arose with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and struck their hands on the ground, then lifted their hands without taking any dust, and wiped their faces and their hands up to the shoulders, and from the inner sides of their hands to their armpits—let no one be misled by this. It reached us that Abū Bakr said to ‘Ā’ishah ؓ, “By Allah, I did not know that you were indeed blessed.”
