حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا زَائِدَةُ عَنْ زِيَادِ بْنِ عِلَاقَةَ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ الْمُغِيرَةَ بْنَ شُعْبَةَ يَقُولُ انْكَسَفَتِ الشَّمْسُ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَ مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ فَقَالَ النَّاسُ انْكَسَفَتْ لِمَوْتِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ الشَّمْسَ وَالْقَمَرَ آيَتَانِ مِنْ آيَاتِ اللهِ لَا يَنْكَسِفَانِ لِمَوْتِ أَحَدٍ وَلَا لِحَيَاتِهِ فَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَادْعُوا اللهَ وَصَلُّوا حَتَّى تَنْكَشِفَ

✧ I heard al-Mughīrah b. Shuʿbah say: “The sun eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on the day Ibrāhīm died. The people said: “It eclipsed because of the death of Ibrāhīm.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of anyone’s death or life. When you see it, supplicate to Allah and pray until it clears.”
