✧ We said: Did anyone from this community lead the Prophet ﷺ in prayer other than Abu Bakr al-Siddiq? He said: Yes. We were on such-and-such a journey, and when it was the pre-dawn time, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck the neck of his mount and set off, and I followed him. He disappeared from me for a while, then came back and said: Do you need anything? I said: I have no need, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Is there any water? I said: Yes. I poured water for him, and he washed his hands, then washed his face. Then he tried to uncover his forearms, and he was wearing a Syrian jubba, which was tight, so he inserted his hands and brought them out from under the jubba. He washed his face and forearms, wiped his forelock and over his turban and leather socks. Then we caught up with the people when the prayer had already been called, and 'Abd al-Rahman b. 'Awf was leading them and had prayed one rak'a. I went to inform him, but he stopped me. So we prayed the rak'a we caught and made up the one we had missed.
